5 Best Cleansers for Oily, Blemished, Aging Skin

Woman cleansing faceThere are literally hundreds of facial cleansers on the market. Some of them are great, others leave quite a bit to be desired, but how are you to know which ones are effective? After lots of testing with lots of different cleansers, (not hundreds ;) ) – more like about two dozen cleansers ranging from inexpensive drugstore brands to pricey brands, and we found the following five to be our favorites:

  1. Intelligent Aesthetics Clear – if blackheads, oily skin and blemishes are your concern, then this gentle, deep cleaning cleanser with benzoyl peroxide is for you. $32 at intelligentaesthetics.com.
  2. Patricia Wexler MD Dual-Action Foaming Cleanser – a perfect mix of skin regenerating MMPi technology and salicylic acid (Beta Hydroxy acid) to help aging, blemished skin look younger and clearer. $16 at Bath & Body Works.
  3. Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser – uses a combination of glycolic acids( alpha hydroxy and beta hydroxy) and microbeads to help refine skin texture and minimize pore size via a physical and chemical at home scrub. It does an amazing job of keeping skin exfoliated and pores clog-free, which with continued use will actually reduce the amount and severity of acne breakouts. This is a long time favorite and it’s inexpensive, less than $7 and available at drugstores.
  4. DERMAdoctor Wrinkle Revenge Antioxidant Enhanced Glycolic Acid Facial Cleanser – fight acne and wrinkles at the same time with this powerful soap-free cleanser which contains 12% glycolic acid ( there are also 18% and 20% formulations) and is delivered in a gentle base so skin doesn’t get irritated, skin just gets beautiful. If you’re over 30 and suffering with acne, then this cleanser is a must have.$24 at DERMAdoctor.com.
  5. MD Formulations Facial Cleansing Gel for Oily and Very Oily Skin – another gentle, glycolic cleanser that delivers results. With continued use pores are refined, unclogged, blemishes are reduced, fine wrinkles fade away (thanks to the magic of glycolic acids) and oily skin is more manageable. $32 at DERMAdoctor.com
