Sephora No!No! Review

October 15th 2007 no!no! update:

It’s been over two weeks and I’ve been using the Sephora no!no! three times a week and it appears that over half the hair isn’t coming back yet. Granted, it’s only been two weeks and the hair may just be dormant on that side but I do note that on the control leg (shaving only -right leg) all hair is back. I will continue to document the no!no! side and let you know if the “missing” hair comes back.I also took the plunge and no!no!-ed my lower left arm (below elbow) last week (Sunday 7, 2007) – after I did my leg maintenance.I have to tell you I felt sick to my stomach when I did it.

One thing is experimenting on my legs – which I can hide under pants and dark stockings. The arms are visible to all. So much fear for naught. I felt like a dork after I did my arm and I didn’t wake-up to a pokey, stubbled terrain dotting my now hairless arm. The hair came in real slow. Really, really slow and best of all the results on my left arm are fabulous compared to the control arm (shaving only – right arm). However, by now you probably know that I tend to be very cautious about stating that the no!no! works perfectly. Yes, the results to date are incredible but as always it’s long term that counts.I will have some photos up either later today (after work) or tomorrow morning.

o!no! left arm before=
Left arm – hairy before no!no!.

o!no! left arm before=
Left arm – smooth after no!no!, hair coming in sparse and slower than shaved test area on right arm.

October 18th 2007 no!no! update:Still looking good.I’ve received some emails about testing no!no! on the bikini line area. I may do so BUT – yes, here comes the big BUT…I will not be posting photos of that experiment. Enough said :)

Some of you told me that you did buy the no!no! and if I had any usage recommendations. Glad you asked because I have several.First, shave the long hairs instead of no!no!-ing. I found that working with stubble is preferable to having to use the long hair hot blade. The smell of burning hair is lessened tremendously. Secondly, don’t skip the buff/exfoliate step. It must be done or your skin will feel stubbly. Thirdly, dry, naked skin only – no moisture, no lotions.

For those of you who said you were going to do the bikini line – follow recommendation #1.Some of my male readers asked if they can use the no!no! on chest and body hair. The manual states, “Do not use the no!no! on your face, breast or genitals” but I could not find anything in the manual or online that said no usage on body hair – my interpretation meaning back hair, stomach/abdomen hair and chest hair.

I will be contacting Sephora and/or the manufacturer of the no!no! to get some clarification for male usage of the no!no!.

Nov 1 2007 no!no! update:

I’m continuing to use the no!no! at least two to three times a week and the results are holding steady. The no!no! side has less hair and slower regrowth versus the shaved side.

I’m impressed and quite happy with the results to date.In my opinion, the no!no! beats shaving any day. Shaving results in stubble within 24 hours while the no!no! side averages 36 to 48 hours of smooth skin before the stubble appears.

Of course, the strong point of the no!no! is that there is also much less hair that pops up after each treatment – shaving doesn’t reduce the amount of regrowth.

Waxing seems to have one advantage over the no!no! (for now) because waxing provides longer periods of no stubble or hair growth-however all of the hair does eventually grow back and that’s where the no!no! has the advantage – the hair density is reduced with consistent no!no! usage. There’s also no pain with the no!no! usage and waxing for me has always been a painful endeavor so I prefer no!no!-ing two to three times a week to waxing.

Some readers have asked me whether or not the no!no! permanently removes hair and I learned that the FDA forbids any company to state that they offer 100% permanent hair removal – that includes Laser Hair Removal.

Thanks to reader Ricki’s great question regarding hair regrowth after stopping no!no! usage I have added a new test that will compare the hair regrowth after ceasing use of the no!no!. Look for that test information starting after week eight.

Here are some tips that will make using your no!no! usage easier:

1. Shave all long hairs and no!no! the stubble.
2. no!no! against the direction of hair growth.
3. Be consistent – nothing works if you don’t have the discipline to follow through. Follow the no!no! guidelines and you will see results. Just like a successful weight loss program if you diet and exercise consistently the weight comes off – don’t do it and your results will be dismal. So yes, I am stating that if you lack discipline don’t bother buying the no!no! as it will be a disappointment.
4. Buff the no!no!-ed areas and take care not to overbuff – speaking from experience it hurts. Gentle works just fine :)

Now some answers to reader mail:

Can I use the no!no! on my genital area? I don’t have to follow the manual or their guidelines do I?

To reiterate the manual states:
Do not use the no!no! on your face, breast or genitals.

Why can’t I use the no!no! on my face?

According to the no!no! guidelines, the face is very sensitive and the no!no! may get too hot to tolerate.

Do you work for Sephora or their PR company?

No. I just asked them for a tester and they sent one out and I have been documenting the use for others to learn more about the no!no!.

Why won’t Sephora stores let me test the no!no! in store?

I’m all for testing and testers but in this case a one time test usage will not help you form an opinion. You need to use the no!no! for at least eight weeks to see any long-term results. $250 is quite a bit of money to spend on any product so I can understand the need to know that it will work. The no!no! has a sixty day money-back guarantee so you can try with no risk or you can continue to follow my experience here and then decide if the no!no! fits your needs.

I will be anxiously awaiting your review of this! I am curious if it’s really pain-free, and if it works! After all of my experiences with laser hair removal, I am wondering how this will compare.

    Hi Jeni,

    It’s definitely pain-free.

This will be an incredible and affordable at home hair removal tool if it does perform as promised. I can’t wait to see what my results will be eight weeks from today.

Thanks for the review. I can’t wait to hear about the long term no!no! results.

I have a few questions I hope you can answer:

How does the no!no! compare to waxing?

Do you get stubble the next day or does it stay smooth?

I noticed that your legs aren’t that hairy maybe it’s the photo – you did say you had stubble coming in, so do you think that the no!no! would work on someone who has a lot of hair?

How long does it take to remove hair on your legs using the no!no!? Is it as fast as shaving?

    Thanks again.
    Loren

    Hi Loren,

Here are answers to your question:

The no!no! is truly pain-free. Waxing is torture for me and then theres the sticky wax residue that seems to stick to me no matter how wonderful my wax lady is (and she’s a doll).

I didn’t get stubble the next day, however, today I’m sporting some rough stubble – yuck. The stubble is more like stubble from a waxed leg instead of a shaved leg in that it doesn’t feel angled or sharp.

Sorry about the images – when I got to close to my legs with the camera (even in detail mode) everything got out of focus. It’s easy to see the long hairs the stubble just showed up on the pictures as a thousand dirty pores. I really do have hairy legs just most of that hair right now is in stubble mode. I will also (working up the courage to do so) use the no!no! on my hairy arms. The hair on my arms has long caused me distress and I would love to see the hair disappear. Pictures will be forthcoming – once I work up the nerve to no!no! my arm.

The no!no! took me WAY longer to use to remove the hair than if I had shaved. Granted I’m still new to using the no!no! I have a feeling that it will always be slower than shaving. From my limited experience I’d say to reserve a block of time to use the no!no! – when you aren’t in a rush. The key to no!no!s effectiveness is to use if often (3 x a week) and use it correctly and that requires patience and a block of uninterrupted/non -rushed time.

    Fernanda Says:

Did you try it on your bikini-area? How about armpits?

  6. 6
    ms. distressedDerma Says:

    Hi Fernanda,

Haven’t no!no!-ed either of those areas yet. The hot blades do have limited life-spans so I am concentrating on my legs for this review and as I mentioned to Loren – my arms.

I’m just a bit nervous about doing my arms because I have to be really flexible to do my right arm well. I am lousy using my left hand for painting my nails so am just a bit afraid of the quality of hair removal I will experience using the no!no! with my left hand. I am tempted to approach my husband, sisters or friends to help :)

Can you tell me if men can use this device??

    thanks

    ms. distressedDerma Says:

    Hi Cylan,

The no!no! can be used by men or women.

    BELINDA Says:

WHERE DO YOU BUY THE REPLACEMENT? ARE THEY EXPENSIVE?

    ms. distressedDerma Says:

    Hi Belinda,

The replacements are inexpensive. You can buy them at Sephora – they sell them in combos for $21.00.
