Peter Thomas Roth Max BPO Gel 10% (formerly known as BPO Gel 10% and Sulfur) is a maximum strength benzoyl peroxide acne medication that helps to minimize or completely eliminate breakouts. This benzoyl peroxide/sulfur compound is without a doubt the most powerful topical acne treatment product that you can obtain without a prescription. It is a bit pricey at $32.00 for 2.2 ounces but only a minimal amount is required and the product does last quite a while without losing it’s effectiveness.
In my case, I only use the Peter Thomas Roth Max BPO Gel 10% on individual blemishes ( the stubborn kind that refuse to resolve) and areas prone to blackheads (on facial skin) as using it as an all over treatment leads to excessively dry, flaky skin. The product is quite effective and the only drawback I can list is it’s overpowering sulfur scent. How can I put this nicely? It stinks. Really, it smells quite bad and I would not recommend this acne treatment product for use during day time. I use it a night and I switch out pillow cases nightly when using the Peter Thomas Roth Max BPO Gel 10% because the “scent” lingers. One more thing – use inexpensive bedding and linens since this acne solution has benzoyl peroxide it will bleach all it comes into contact with – same goes for your hair.
I highly recommend this product for spot treatments for stubborn acne, blackheads and for body acne treatments, specifically shoulders and back. When using the Peter Thomas Roth Max BPO Gel 10% do not layer it over Alpha Hydroxy Acid, Beta Hydroxy Acid or Retin-A as it will increase your skin’s sensitivity. In the past I would alternate the use of this product -in the morning AHA/ BHA and in the evening BPO gel spot treatments. As of this writing I only use the BPO on body breakouts. My facial breakouts are now under control and for the occasional pimple if necessary – I try to zap pimples with the Zeno before they erupt – but if I’m too late then it’s time for MD Formulations Vit-A-Plus Clearing Complex. It’s a great product and works wonders on the occasional “easy” to resolve pimple. I will have a full review on that product soon. However, if your problem is stubborn (and multiple) pimples and blackheads then I would recommend the BPO 10% gel.
