After a lot and I do mean a lot of trial and error testing with different skin care products I found the following products and system works best because it addresses three of the five acne causes that are controllable: Retention Hyperkeratosis,Over-Productive Sebum Glands and Propionibacterium Acnes.
MORNING SKIN CARE ROUTINE
Each morning I start by cleansing with Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser (Alpha/Beta Hydroxy formula) in the shower. The glycolic cleanser helps exfoliate the cellular buildup that leads to clogged pores called Retention Hyperkeratosis.
If I feel any new bumps under my skin I quickly reach for my Zeno MD (see my Zeno review) and set about treating the future pimples before they see the light of day.
After my skin is dry I apply MD Formulations Vit-A Plus Clearing Complex to problem areas. The MD Formulations Vit-A Plus is an alpha/beta hydroxy complex with vitamin A that address both the nasty acne causing bacteria called Propionibacterium Acnes as well as the Retention Hyperkeratosis.
I am also concerned with aging skin and faint wrinkles and lines that are beginning to appear so I use Dr. Wexler MMPi Regenerating Serum on wrinkle problem areas near hairline and faint lines above lips. Followed by an application of MD Formulations Continuous Renewal Complex all over face avoiding eye and lip area. The MD Formulations Continuous Renewal is my miracle product because it effectively addresses my acne problems and my aging skin concerns. I truly, truly love that product. It is a buffered gycolic acid compound that helps prevent the cellular buildup associated with Retention Hyperkeratosis.
I’ve began to develop tiny lines around my eyes and have been targeting that aging concern with Neova Eye Therapy. I apply the Neova Eye Therapy on the delicate eye skin and then follow that with Dr. Wexler’s MMPi Regenerating Serum. My lips also tend to feel dry and dehydrated throughout the day and I have tried dozens of lip balms and found that best to be Dr. Wexler No-Injection Lip Plumper, which I use on my lips to keep them moist and full. I sometimes also use Burts Bees lip balm when I go swimming or snorkeling because it performs best underwater.
I never, ever leave the house with out protecting my skin from the damaging effects of the sun – so I use Dr. Wexler Universal Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 30 with MMPi. This is a great product because it has dual benefits anti-aging agents and sun block. I must let you know that it is CRITICAL to use sunscreen when using glycolic acids on your skin because your skin will be very sensitive and a prime candidate for damage.
After the moisturizer is set and dry, I gently pat dermaDoctor Tease Zone over my face avoiding the eye and lip area. The Tease Zone product controls oil production for eight hours. I also keep an emergency supply of Mary Kay Oil Blot Tissues in my purse for those days when my skin is exceeding oily around the time of my period. Managing the sebum/oil production addresses the Over-Productive Sebum Glands issue that leads to acne.
EVENING SKIN CARE ROUTINE
I use MD Formulations Non-Glycolic cleanser to remove make-up and then use Neutrogena Pore Refining Cleanser on my make-up free skin. If I had emerging acne problems that I had noticed in the morning I treat them again using the Zeno MD before continuing with my regular skin care regimen.
Once my skin is dry I apply MD Formulations Continuous Renewal Complex all over face avoiding eye and lip area. I alternate my use of the MD Formulations Continuous Renewal Complex with the use of Neova Anti-Oxidant Therapy Serum which is an incredible product that helps my acne damaged skin heal considerably faster than any other “healing” anti-oxidant product on the market including the Vitamin C serums that are widely promoted as collagen builders.
In the evening I also use the Neova Eye Therapy and Dr. Wexler’s MMPi Regenerating Serum on the delicate skin around my eyes. I care for my lips in the evening with Dr. Wexler No-Injection Lip Plumper. My final skin care step in the evening is to apply dermaDoctor’s Calm,Cool and Corrected cream – it really helps with the redness from the acne and works well as a light night time moisturizer.
WEEKLY SKIN CARE ROUTINE
Three times a week I perform an at home glycolic peel using MD Formulations My Personal Peel System. Followed by an application of Neova Anti-Oxidant Therapy Serum over entire face. (The glycolic peel addresses the three main acne causing culprits: Retention Hyperkeratosis,Over-Productive Sebum Glands and Propionibacterium Acnes)
My skin care routine may seem like an awful lot of work but it really isn’t. I am able to do my AM and PM routine in less than 10 minutes and having clearer, healthier skin is worth the time.

[...] Adult Acne in the News January 13th, 2007 9:13 pm written by Ms. Distressed Derma and posted in Adult Acne, Acne News I was catching up on my email and found a link to a really great article in the Beacon Journal which profiles several adults who are suffering with adult acne. It’s an interesting article because not one of those profiled used the exact same treatment to deal with their acne. They each had a different approach which worked for them. As I’ve written dozens of times – it’s a matter of testing and testing and testing until you find which skin care regimen works for you. Just as I did until I found the skin care program that helps me keep the acne under control and on occassion keep my skin clear. [...]

Nitrogena is a good line, I use their creams and moisturizers and can recommend it as well. Thanks for the article!
