I may have your answer! I don't have facial acne, just the odd pimple every now and then. Never had bacne or pimples anywhere other than... my butt. WTH?! Not easy to say. So weird. And not sexy, to say the least. BUT, a wonderful nurse practitioner prescribed for me, years ago, Phisohex. You know the company that makes Phisoderm? Well, they make Phisohex too. I get it almost free in Canada with my health care plan. But if you had to pay for it, it wouldn't be much. Certainly less than a lot of the stuff on the market.

Anyway, all I do is use it every other day, a quarter sized amount, rub it on in the shower and rinse it right away. And that keeps me acne free 99% of the time. I couldn't believe it. I still can't believe it, really. I used to get quite a few large red pimples with large whiteheads, sometimes painful and I'd always have some. Every single day there'd be at least one or two. Sometimes a lot more. Now, I almost never get anything.

Cheap and super easy: Phisohex. Green bottle. Totally ugly looking.

Only thing: not good for your face or any body part that will come in contact with a lot of sun. It makes you more sensitive to the sun. A lot of sunscreen might be enough. A regular family doc should be able to prescribe it and instruct.

Good luck!

Hi Shannon,

I've had my bouts with body acne (and face acne) myself. First off, stop feeling bad about yourself. You're still you, you are not ugly. This is just something that needs to get treated and it can go away :)

The neutrogena acne body wash can work. My sister uses it with a back brush and it's worked pretty well for her. However, for me, exfoliation and hydration is the key, both for the skin on my body and for the skin on my face. If I let my skin get too dry, and if I'm not diligent in my routine, that's when my skin breaks out in both pimples and cystic acne. I don't know how old you are, but I'm 26. Just drying out the pimples doesn't work anymore like it did when I was a teenager. I have to work at maintaining a balance. The reason I'm telling you this, is because I think you might be feeling like you need to dry the hell out of your skin just to try to get rid of your acne. And while it's true, you have to keep your skin clean, you also have to make sure that you don't allow dead skin cells to pile up and clog your pores. So you have to balance it with moisturizing.

Alas, there's going to be some trial and error involved before you find one you like. It can be tricky to find a non-heavy moisturizer that hydrates w/o breaking you out. But here's what I use:

Face: Acnexcus
http://www.acnexus.com/

It's a scrub, but it also has a lot of other goodies in it that won't dry out your skin. I've always been wary of natural products, because I have sensitive skin, but this doens't bother it at all. It's herby smelling, but you get used to it. I've tried many, many products and I like this one a lot. Has the benefits of harsh chemical treatments like benzoyl peroxide, but with out the irritation. I used to use Proactive. It worked really well when I was younger, but as I became older it stopped working and just irritted my skin. I feel that because as my skin matured, it became less about drying out the oil, and more about getting my skin balanced. I still need the acne treatment, but I need to keep my skin from drying out too, you know?

Moisturizer: Prescriptives Fast Acting moisturizer for normal skin
http://www.prescriptives.com/templates/products/sp_nonshaded.tmpl?CATEGORY_ID=CATEGORY14713&PRODUCT_ID=PROD969

It absorbs fast and it just feels very good. It's not greasy, but it still feels like it's soaking into the skin. It makes my skin super soft.

Body: Loofa on a stick and Aveeno soothing body wash. Scrub scrub. Gentle to not irritate existing breakouts, but hard enough to exfoliate. Since it's winter, I've had to up the hydration. My skin had become very irritated, itchy and it was breaking out with pimples and cystic acne. But in the summer, I use Clearly natural glycerin soap and occasionally exfoliate.

Lotion: I change it up depending on my skins needs. I HATE being greasy, and while you need to moisturize, I don't think it's ever a good idea to use heavy moisterizers on broken out skin. Try something light for those areas like Cetaphil daily moisturizer or Johnson&Johnson Nourishing renewal lotion. Curel Restore and Revive also works great, aborbs fast and I found it to improve skin tone. But it doesn't last as long and the Johnson&Johnson.

So that's it. Sorry for writing a novel. Bottom line, you have to stop stressing. It is a process of elimination, but there are a lot of good products out there. Just try to listen to your body. If it feels itchy or dry, moisturize. If it looks dull or flaky, exfoliate. If it feels greasy, or like it's going to break out, cleanse. It's about finding a balance. I've also found that the less you mess with it, the better. Help it along, but also listen to it. You will find something that works. Good luck!

That's really good advice. I would also suggest wearing loose fitting workout clothes. At least for me when I wore tight fitness clothing I would break out and it would invariably be in the same location as the "X" on my sports top. I switched to a looser top and the back acne has cleared up.

I think may be it was the friction caused by my clothes in addition to the sweat, dirt and clogged pores.
