Red, irritated, oily skin and ugly bumps deep under your skin? That was my skin’s condition a few years ago. My skin was such an angry red color that no matter how much make-up I caked on (and trust me I applied it with a heavy hand) my skin still radiated pinkness. It was embarrassing, it was painful and it caused me deep emotional distress. I can’t tell you how often I was asked if I had fallen asleep under the bright South Florida sun.
To make matters worse I had deep, painful cystic lesions under the skin. They weren’t visible on the surface but the simple act of leaning my face on my hand or brushing my cheek on husband’s face as I kissed him good-bye in the morning would cause me to pull back in pain. Those under-skin cystic bumps hurt bad.
My family doctor prescribed Retin-A Micro to address my skin concerns but instead of making my skin better the Retin-A Micro only exaceberated the skin sensitivity and redness.
Around this time I started to see product reviews popping up about “Calm, Cool and Corrected” a DERMAdoctor product. I’d long been a DERMAdoctor fan but had yet to try any of Dr. Kunin’s new skin care products from the DERMAdoctor collection. Dr. Kunin’s skin care products are expensive and at that time her skin care collection had yet to develop the same cache, prestige and success record that were associated with dermatologists’ brands such as Murad, Brandt, Perricone and others.
I read several adult acne and rosacea articles written by Dr. Kunin as well as what seemed like at least fifty email questions from women suffering from the same skin concerns as me. Dr. Kunin seemed to understand how to calm the angry skin and minimize the cystic eruptions under the skin. Her solution was to attack the adult acne via an elegant skin cream that addresses the multi-faceted aspects of rosacea: redness, sensitivity, acne and oiliness.
Truth be told, the testimonials and the “satisfaction guaranteed” policy are what convinced me to purchase the product because I was having a heck of a time justifying spending $75 on this cream but knowing that I could always send it back assuaged my fears of being stuck with a crummy, yet expensive skin cream.
The first day I used the cream, I loved it. It glided on smooth, felt light and didn’t leave a nasty oily residue. The next morning I awoke to find a rosy face staring back at me in the mirror instead of the angry, red, irritated face I had grown accustomed to seeing. The redness didn’t go away immediately it took several weeks of treatment to get it under control but I was well on my way to looking normal – without layers of foundation. The sub-dermal cystic lesion swelling also vastly improved. The only thing the calm, cool and corrected cream didn’t do was drastically reduce my skin’s tendency to over-lubricate itself, it was still oily.

Oh I’ve been curious about this product. I want to try her Picture Porefect, to reduce blackheads, but I am skeptical it will work, and like you don’t want to spend a lot of money if something doesn’t work. I have the Dermadoctor book, but haven’t actually tried any of the products yet.

Hi Jeni,
I’ve been using the DERMAdoctor Picture Porefect product since August and have the review in the works but I can tell you that I wouldn’t buy it again. It didn’t really make my pores smaller (temporarily it did but not long term) or clean out my stubborn blackheads.
It did work quite well for oil control but I already use the fabulous TeaseZone (DERMAdoctor) and ounce for ounce it’s less expensive and controls oil production just as well.
